The Scottish development Department has announced plans for a new crossing of the North Esk at the Lower Northwater Bridge.
The proposal is to demolish the now-disused railway bridge down stream of the present road bridge and erect a new road bridge on its site.

The Charleton maternity Home at Montrose, which was threatened with closure because of a shortage of mid-wives, is to remain open. The home has recruited an additional midwife and has enough staff to keep going.
The Tayside Health Board are continuing to advertise for trained staff for the home which, at the moment, is being run as before.
