At the annual meeting of Angus branch of the Royal Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children held in Arbroath, Inspector Burness said that during the year 101 cases had been reported, involving 235 children.

Brechin by-pass - At the monthly meeting of Angus Roads Committee it was reported that soil strip and culvert construction was proceeding on the Brechin by-pass.

In spite of the unsettled weather the opening of Brechin Castle and Gardens, under the Scotland’s Gardens Scheme brought visitors from a wide area on Sunday. The show of rhododendrons and azaleas was greatly admired.

150 high school pupils had a holiday on Tuesday because of the technical teachers strike.
