Civic week 1974 got off to a grand start at the weekend - and we are not forgetting the two bad blows the weather clerk dealt the Round Table’s pageant programme - the rain which washed out the donkey derby on Saturday evening before it was half way through and the high wind on Sunday afternoon which made it too risky for the Golden Lion parachutists to come down.

Brechin’s new £50,000 fire station in Scott Street was officially opened on Wednesday evening by Dean of Guild Harold G Morton, chairman of Angus Fire Area Joint Committee. Present at the ceremony were Provost and Mrs Buchan and members of the Town Council and officials and representatives of every fire station in the brigade.
