Following a letter from Edzell Village Improvement Society, Brechin District Council has agreed to accept responsibility for the upkeep of the Memorial Arch at Edzell which the chairman described as an “asset to the village”.
The Arch was erected in 1889 by the tenants on the Brechin Castle, Edzell, Lochlee and Lethnot estates, in memory of John William Ramsay, 13th Earl of dalhousie, and his Countess who, with tragic suddenness, died within a few days of each other in November 1887.

New District Courts with lay judges on the bench are to replace Burgh and JP Courts which will cease to exist next May.
