From the archives: 40 years ago

The annual Scottish-American Day at the US Navy Base at Edzell on Saturday was attended by a large number of people from Angus and Mearns and also by visitors as far south as Edinburgh. The Commanding Officer, Captain W. K. Martin, welcomed guests and said they wanted to show them something of the American way of life. This year’s theme was an American country fair with candy stall, American Bingo and displays.

Has the miserable weather had a deterrent effect on evil does? During August both the police and the Magistrates have had light jobs. Only five persons came before the courts, only three of the five belonged to the town and the charge against all three was for “letting the lum gang on fire”.
