Tonight (Thursday) will be a notable one in Brechin’s long ecclesiastical history. At a service in West and St Columba’s, the congregations of the Gardner Memorial and West and St. Columba’s, presently linked, will be united. At the service of union, which commences at 7 p.m., the Rev. James Weatherhead, Montrose Old Church, Moderator of the Presbytery, will officiate.

Talks are to be held by Mr Alick Buchanan-Smith, MP for North Angus and Mearns, and Mr Andrew Welsh, MP for South Angus, on the proposal by Angus County Council to site a central incinerator for the county at Leysmill, near Arbroath. The move is being opposed by villagers and residents in the district.
