As a result of the researches of Mr D. B. Thoms, Brechin High School can now trace its line of Rectors (before Rectors, ‘Masters’) back as far as 1485, with only a few gaps in the early stages. This, Rector Dron notes, must be a quite remarkable claim for any school. By courtesy of the Education Committee, the names - and it is a lengthy list - have now been scribed on two or the ornamental panels in the main vestibule of the school.

Chief Constable John Farquharson of Angus was presented with the Queen’s Police Medal - awarded him in the New Year Honours List - by the Earl of Dalhousie, Lord Lieutenant. The ceremony took place at the start of a meeting of Angus Joint Police Committee.
