The first meeting of the Steering Committee appointed to consider the setting up of a Community Council represent Brechin and other interested areas was held in the Council Chambers on Monday. The Rev Peter Gordon was appointed chairman and Mr Peter D. Kinghorn clerk. Among the topics discussed were the size, composition, election and functions of the community council which will come into operation in May 1976.

Mr Sam Balfour, who retired at Station Officer, Brechin Fire Station, on Saturday, was on Friday evening presented with a watch at the Firemen’s annual dinner-dance. For Mrs Balfour there was a bouquet of flowers. Mr James Kyles, who retired from the service in November, was presented with his 20 years’ service medal. Both presentations were made by Firemaster Alfred Jones.
