From the archives: 40 years ago

The major scheme of improvements proposed to be carried out at the City Hall had to be postponed because of the Government’s economy cuts but the possibility of carrying out particular urgent work with money from the Common Good is to be discussed.

The Steering Committee set up to pave the way for a Community Council for Brechin had not lost time in putting a request before the Town Council. It was pointed out that the plaques on the War Memorial in the Public Park were badly in need of cleaning. It is nine years since they were last done. 
The Council agreed to give the Committee a donation of £25 towards the cost, an estimate which is to be provide by the Burgh Surveyor.
