Brechin Town Council which, it was pointed out, had come into existence about 1535 met for the last time last Monday evening.

The occasion was relieved of some of its gloom perhaps by the presence of members of the newly formed Community Association, who were attending on the invitation of the departing Council.

Provost Buchan, welcoming them, wished them all the best in their task of looking after the community’s interest. While they could not but regard the passing the Town Council with the deepest regret the fact that Community Council were coming into existence gave them more confidence for the future.

Peter Young, chairman of the community association, referred to the active part the Council had played in the life of the community over the past 440 years.

Over 100 Round Tablers took part in the Area 49 golf match held at Scotscraig, Tayport and the team section was won by Brechin and District Round Table.

Members of the winning team were Bill Robertson, Jimmy Vettese and Keith Bruce. Brechin also figured prominently in the individual handicap section with Bill Robertson in second place with a net 69 and Jimmy Vettese in third with a net 70.
