The presence of the Queen Mother who presided at Dundee University graduation ceremony on Saturday made it a particularly happy and memorable occasion for the students who received degrees and their families.

Two of the graduates were from Brechin. Robert Ian Marr Young, younger son of Mr and Mrs Alexander Young, 15 Provost Road, and a former pupil of Brechin High School graduated B.Sc. with 1st Class Honours in Applied Science and Mechanical Engineering.

In the Scottish bowling championship at Queen’s Park, Glasgow on Saturday the Brechin triple, J.Leslie, D. K. Ross and George Smart, made history by beating Beechgrove-Moffat 16-13 in the final.

They are the first team from an Angus club to win the championship.

A record-breaking crowd of 70,000 attended the second Scottish transport extravaganza on July 19/20.

It was organised by the Strathmore Vintage Vehicle Club. Winners included J. Buchan, jun., first for classic motor cycle with his 1935 Triumph. F. M. Robertson, Fettercairn, was first for horse-drawn entry. Included in the marquee display was a 1924 Ner-a-Car motor cycle, restored by pupils of Brechin High School.
