The colourful ceremonial associated with the change of command at the US Naval Security Group Activity at Edzell - the first for four years - took place out of doors on Friday in heat which the American community could well have associate with the homeland.

Captain Norman Horowitz was taking over from Captain William K. Martin.

The ceremony, in the presence of Service and civilian guests, was carried through with all the traditional “spit and polish”. Capt. Martin came to Edzell originally for a three year tour of duty but last year he was asked to stay on for a further year. His command has been a very happy and successful one.

Mr Alick L. Buchanan-Smith, Conservative MP for North Angus and Mearns and Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland, opened the new 7000 sq. ft. extensions to the Matrix Engineering factory in Brechin. Matrix, a TI Machine Division company, has spent £150,000 on a factory extension and modernisation programme - plus a further £150,000 on new machine tools - which will update their pre-war buildings and introduce more modern methods of production in the area.
