Her Majesty the Queen, on holiday at Balmoral, motored down to the Mearns last Wednesday for the confirmation in the little Episcopal Church of St. Andrew, Fasque, of her god-daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Somervell.
Miss Somervell, who is 14, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Somervell, Fettercairn House. Mrs Somervell, formerly Miss Diana Bowes-Lyon, is a cousin of the Queen. The Queen was Katherine’s godmother at her christening in the same church.
Over 20 organisations have submitted proposal for Community councils to Angus District Council.
Further steps will be taken shortly. The proposal will probably be discussed informally at a seminar attend by Councillors and officials next month, Mr W. S. McCulloch, Chief executive, said last week, and then there will be a comprehensive series of public meetings.
Points which will have to be thrashed out will be the numbers of councils, method of electing members, number of members and whether any member should be co-opted.
Mr McCulloch added that he hoped the finalised proposals would be submitted to the Scottish Secretary in March or April.
