The reason for the delay in installing traffic lights at the Upper Northwater Bridge, the notorious accident black spot on the Brechin-Laurencekirk road, was explained at last Tuesday’s meeting of the Brechin District Council. The installation of the lights was approved last December. The council were told, in a report from the Angus road surveyor, that the Scottish Development Department insisted on a multi-warning pad system and this entailed a plan of the approaches on each side of the bridge so that the pads might be sited correctly.

Over 1500 attended the Balwyllo barn dances last week run by the Brechin and District Young Farmers’ Club. The first night the music was by Valerie Lemay and the Vagabonds when 640 attended.
