From the archives: 50 years ago

A Brechin singer placed himself well in the running for the £1,000 cash prize in a £6,000 National Talent Contest last week. 
Twenty eight year old Ronald Stewart, a member of the Maisondieu Church Choir, won the first prize in the weekly heat of the contest at Butlin’s Holiday Camp in Ayr. Before an audience of over a thousand fellow holiday makers, he sang “In Cellar Cool”.
Ronald will now be invited to take part in the Northern Area finals of the contest in Blackpool later in the season.

Renovations of the swimming pool at North Links School, Montrose, was approved by Angus Education Committee at a cost of £2,753.
