From the archives: 50 years ago

Three Menmuir children had a miraculous escape on Sunday morning when lightning ripped through four farm cottages at Balfour. In the end house, home of Mr and Mrs Gordon Simpson the television aerial was struck. Slates were stripped off the roof, ceilings brought down and window glass blown in. The worst damage was in the children’s bedroom but the children were unhurt.

Livestock entries for Angus Agricultural Association’s county show at Victoria Park, Arbroath on Wednesday, July 29, were 100 up on last year when the show was held at Camperdown, Dundee.

STRACATHRO house was recently inspected by a representative of the Ministry of Works as a building of architectural interest.
