From the archives: 50 years ago

The metal bridge erected across the railway line by Edzell Golf Club as a convenient access to the second tee had become expensive to maintain and has been demolished and sold for scrap. It has been replaced by a ramp built mainly by Club members.

The Town Clerk reported that the Cathedral clock (one of the public clocks the Council is responsible for) had stopped the previous week; it had been got to go again, but stopped after a few days. It is in need of an overhaul, the bearings are in a bad condition. The Old Town Hall clock is also in a precarious state of repair. It was agreed to get a report on the Cathedral clock from a firm of watch makers. Ex-Provost Eddie wondered if it would not be cheaper to buy a new clock.
