Mrs R. C. Cessford of Whanland Farm, gained second prize in the semi-final (Scottish area) of a competition sponsored by the Hydro-Electric Boards and a weekly farming magazine. Mrs Cessford travelled to Glasgow last Friday to compete with the other semi-finalists. In the contest the ladies had to cook and serve a two-course meal in 20 minutes.

After discussion, it was agreed to go ahead with the provision of electric power points in all the Council’s pre-1945 houses. The estimated cost is £3,795.

On Saturday first, in the Mechanics’ Institute, the members of the Arts Guild are to have Mr Ron Stenberg as their guest lecturer. His subject will be ‘The Art of Illustration’.
