The clock maker who had examined the Cathedral clock - the mechanism dates from 1808 - found the bearings so worn that before the clock could be made to go again, it would all have to be taken to pieces. He had been very definite, Mr Small told the Town Council, that it would be cheaper to get an electric one. The council decided to wait for the clock maker’s report before discussing the matter further.
Brechin ladies’ Lifeboats Guild has remitted £630 to headquarters during the past year, It was reported at the annual general meeting. This was a slight drop from the previous year’s £641, which was a record. The decrease was due to £24 being sent directly to headquarters, the money actually collected in Brechin was £14 more than last year.
