The Town Council last Monday, after considering objections made by householders, decided by eight votes to five not to extend the parking place in Panmure Street as far as West and St Columba’s Church.

By the casting vote of Provost Millar it was agreed to reduce the charge for the Mechanics’ Hall for the High School’s three Christmas dances from £20 to £15. The dances are on successive nights. On the suggestion of the Council, Rector Anderson had written to the Director of Education to ask if a grant could be made towards the cost of the hall. Mr Crawford replied they did not have the powers to subsidise a hall for a school party. The Chamberlain said that all the Council could do was give the hall at a cheaper rate since it was wanted on successive evenings.
