From the archives: 50 years ago

Each of the old people on the Meals on Wheels list this week received a good bundle of kindling. Wooden furniture from the old Telephone Exchange at the Post Office was handed over to Mr Ed Durie, District Commissioner of Scouts, and the Scouts chopped and bundled it.

Angus Road Department are now very much on their toes in their fight against the elements. With the new radio-telephone communication between the department and their vehicles, the Roads Department can quickly move ploughs as required. There was a recent instance when the two supervising foremen were out in the area, but readily accessible should they be required.
