From the archives: 50 years ago

Angus doctors decided last week to support the national plan to resign from the National Health service. All doctors residing in the county who are under contract to the NHS were incited to discuss the present situation regarding general practice. Out of a possible attendance of 49, 38 were present. Those unable to attend were allowed proxy votes. A total of 30 votes, including three proxy, were received in support of the resignation move.

To mark his retiral after 30 years as bandmaster of Brechin City Band, Mr George Kean was presented with a watch at a social gathering on Saturday evening. There was a company of about 50 including Provost and Mrs Millar and representatives from Montrose and Forfar Bands. The presentation was made by Mr R. Sturrock, who has been connected with the Band for over 50 years.
