The single-line rail track between Edzell and Brechin is being lifted following the closure last autumn of the line to goods traffic. A Coatbridge firm are working from Edzell towards Brechin and lifting off the six miles of track and cutting it into six foot lengths for easy transport and it is expected to take several weeks. There will be about 1000 tons of scrap metal altogether. The railway bridge spanning the main road to Aberdeen on the northern boundary of Brechin will also become redundant. There is no only one railway line - that to Bridge of Dun - out of Brechin.
Mrs D. A. B. Duke reported to the Town Council on Monday that the sum collected for the Winston Churchill Memorial Appeal in Brechin amounted to £360 15s. Far more than she expected, she said.
