Angus Fire Area Joint committee was told last week that the net cost of running the fire brigade next year would be £268,857. Presenting the provisional estimates, Mr William Millar said this was an increase of £29,109. The bulk of the substantial increase was in wages and salaries. The Brigade’s commitments were likely to be considerable in the future. Mr Millar thought they might have to increase the £6000 allocation to the Vehicle Reserve Fund.

At the Town Council, it was revealed that the Clerk had received a revised tender from Albert Jamieson, clock maker Edinburgh, for a new electrical clock at the Old Town Hall. The cost of the clock would be £36 15s. The cost of dismantling and removing the existing mechanical clock and installing the new one would amount to £58 15s, a total of £95 10s. It was agreed to accept the revised tender.
