Before Careston School broke up for the “tattie holidays” representations were made to Mr and Mrs Alexander George.

Mr George, who has been headmaster at Careston for nine years, is going to the modern languages department at the Harris Academy, Dundee.

Mr and Mrs George were presented with a hall seat in mahogany and a nest of tables in walnut. The presentations were made by Mrs Sefton and the Rev. G. F. Sefton, school chaplain, was also present.

Mrs Sefton referred very warmly to the good work both Mr and Mrs George had done not only in the school but in the parish. Mr George has been secretary of the Hall committee and Mrs George has been very active in the Woman’s Guild. Mr George belongs to Dundee. He took his MA degree with honours in modern languages at St. Andrews University and taught at Stobswell J.S. School and at Carnoustie before going to Careston in 1957.

Mrs George has been her husband’s assistant in the school.

Hockey: Ruthrieston Ramblers 0, Brechin 1.

Brechin’s first win at the Links for eight years. We hope to see them continue their success by beating Dundee wanderers at Wards Park when they visit Brechin in the first League game on Saturday. J. Jolly scored Brechin’s only goal of the game.
