Football: It’s not often a football manager sees his team downed by three goals to nil and still feels there was some good in the performance of his players - but that was Arbroath manager George Fleming’s general reaction after Saturday’s home defeat at the hands of Brechin City.
Brechin’s sharper approach in attack paid big dividends in the goal stakes. Torrance, Eadie and Malone all got on the score sheet within an hour.

Show-Jumping: Chief event in the show-jumping classes was the Taylor-Woodrow Pro-Am Wembley Stakes which was won by Sir Hugh Fraser’s horse Lordos ridden by his daughter, Patricia Fraser. She now qualifies for the Pro-Am final at Wembley.
