From the sports’ archives: 30 years ago

Football: Brechin City’s reward for licking East Fife in the third round of the Scottish Cup was to draw heart of Midlothian at Glebe Park in the fourth round on February 16. The draw was made by Mr David Will, president of the SFA. Brechin’s last encounter with Hearts in the Cup was at Tynecastle on January 27, 1968, Hearts won by four goals to one.

A goal four minutes from time gave FPs a valuable point. Edzell scored after 14 minutes when a low cross was turned past his own ‘keeper by Lindsay Crowe but Murray Lindsay equalised in the 28th minute. Ivan Findlater scored for Edzell with seven minutes left, but Norman Ross scored the last goal for FPs.
