Hockey: Brechin 0, United College 5.
Brechin’s interest in the first Scottish Cup competition did not last long. On Saturday, weakened by last-minute changes, they were forced to play with at least three players out of position. Much can be said for Brechin’s enthusiasm. They have lost quite a few experienced players and are, at the moment, having to find replacement among young lads who have never even seen a hockey stick before.

Football: The proposed transfer of Mike McVittie, Brechin City’s brilliant young ‘keeper, to Third Lanark, did not materialise last week. The Glasgow club wanted him to move nearer Cathkin, but McVittie, who married recently, does not want to leave Kirriemuir.
