From the sports’ archives: 50 years ago

Hockey: Ruthrieston 2, Brechin 1.
Brechin made the trip north to take part on one of the very few games that were played on Saturday and heroically held the champions of the North to a draw until the closing seconds. 
Reporters, spectators and the home team said that this was the best Brechin side for may a day. Guest ‘keeper Fraser was the star of the match and had some excellent saves. He was well supported by Burness, Mitchell, Jolly, Honeyman and Hammond.

Football: Brechin City’s league game with Albion Rovers was one of those cancelled on Saturday, Glebe Park being unfit for play.
