Gaming enthusiasts are being invited to pit themselves against one another at a tabletop battle event taking place in Brechin, whilst at the same time learning about attractions in the region.
The Return of the Blue Wizards event will be held at VisitScotland Information Centre (VIC) at Pictavia Visitor Centre, Brechin Castle Garden Centre, Brechin, on Tuesday, October 14.
Visitors can take part in tabletop war gaming scenarios based on the Lord of the Rings trilogy, in which the fictional Blue Wizards return north after wandering in the southlands. Those taking part can help decide the fate of the northlands and may even become the new hero or villain of the age.
VisitScotland Visitor Services Advisor, Ken Slater, who has organised the event, said: “This is aimed at encouraging people who maybe wouldn’t ordinarily come into a VisitScotland Information Centre to come and see what we’re about. The idea is that the gaming battles are based in a tourist attraction in Angus. We can tell them about the local attractions and they can take away brochures to find out more about them, such as Arbroath Abbey and Montrose Basin.
“In terms of the game itself, the Dark Lord has long been vanquished and now is the time that the Blue Wizards return north after ages of wandering in the southlands. What is their purpose? Is it for the good of the free people or is their intent more sinister? We don’t know if they are good or bad wizards, those playing will decide!”
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and gaming tables, terrain, dice, markers and figures will be provided. Visitors can bring their own warband/battle company if they wish.
