Ronald Baird was the guest of Rotary Club member Bruce Robertson when he spoke about his own historic home at Newtonmill here in Angus.

Ronald has had his nose to the grindstone researching the history of the four mills that existed around Newtonmill, and his talk revealed much about the weirs and the waterwheels, and the sluices and the dams that drove Angus’ water powered industries of the 1700s.

He outlined just exactly what happened in these mills, but also revealed an intimate knowledge of the local geography which prompted the members to grind out quite a few questions.

He was thanked by Bruce Robertson for a talk that was certainly not run of the mill.
