Brechin Rotary Club member and high school rector, Steve Dempsey shared a few views of old Brechin at last week’s club meeting.

He brought a feast of images from the archives of Angus Council.

After showing an 1880s picture of the Brechin Amateur Operatic Society, Steve commented that many groups that exist in Brechin today also existed over 100 years ago.

He also showed that some things do disappear with a selection of views of long-gone places like Barrie’s furniture store, the Valley Works and the North Port Distillery.

Steve also brought evidence of other Brechin events that we don’t get any more such as the Feeing Markets, the Muckle market, Tanks in St Ninian’s Square, elephants in Clerk Street and Charles Moir’s band.

He concluded with film from twenty years ago when the BBC “Hitman and Her” TV show came and filled Flicks with fun and disco frolics. Oh, Happy Days!
