Brechin Rotary joined forces with the Watson Watt Society for a bag-pack and duck race, which raised about £550 to be shared between the Society and RYLA (the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme).

‘Tiger’ Dempsey helped Steve Nicoll and Brian Mitchell from Watson Watt, then (minus his suit) attended as duck-trainer, along with Charlie Allison and Paul Roberts, to run the races.

The winning “owner” from Edzell donated his £50 back to the charities.

The £25 runner-up was Mrs Mary Price from Newton of Stracathro and a third prize of £10 was won by Mrs Mary Murphy of Wards Road.

Both organisations extended thanks to the Co-op and their customers, including a good-natured bus-load of Rangers’ supporters who all put money in the buckets.
