At last week’s Rotary Club meeting Sheila Mann, who was the guest of member Isobel Luke, spoke about the life and works of writer Violet Jacobs.
Sheila, a retired head teacher, now works as a volunteer at the National Trust’s House of Dun. She explained that Violet Jacobs was born at the House of Dun into a privileged lifestyle and became a prolific writer of poems in the later Doric novels.
Sheila gave a sparkling presentation of some of Violet’s work. It included extracts that brought to life such diverse subjects as Heid Horsemen, Wild Geese and Halloween.
Rotary Club member Bruce Robertson gave Sheila a vote of thanks for her talk and incisive presentation of Violet’s verses.
