Brechin Rotary Club invited friends and partners to join them last week at the Caledonian Hotel to hear how Brechin High School pupils Montana Mathieson, Imogen Sherrit and Corrie Robb got on at the recent Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camps.

Taking place each year in District 1010 since 1984, RYLA is a programme for young people throughout the World, and each year is enthusiastically supported by Brechin Rotary Club.

The club sponsored the three youngsters to go to the RYLA camp at Nethy Bridge, where they were treated to a mixture of canoeing, archery, hill walking and map reading, abseiling, kayaking, rock climbing and various other activities that invariably involved jumping into cold or dirty water.

The youngsters reported back and showed a rather amusing DVD of some of the pain and pleasure of the week’s events. They each then gave rather assured accounts.

Rotarian Fiona Robertson thanked them for coming to the club and giving such a full and interesting picture of the events of the week.
