At last week’s Brechin Rotary Club meeting at the Caledonian Hotel, member Melvin Coates showed how profitable a box room clear out can be. During his clearance labours Melvin came across a long lost collection of postcards, many of which portrayed life in Brechin and elsewhere 100 years ago. Many of the scenes were familiar although a few had the Rotarians scratching their heads. Such places as Prentice’s Neuk, the Image Bridge and an unrecognisable view of Millden were revealed along with images of bygone Arbroath, Edzell, Forfar, Marykirk and other local places. Rotary Club president Jim Houston gave Melvin a vote of thanks for his informative glimpse into the local past.
