At last week’s Brechin Rotary Club meeting, Mr Douglas Lorimer from Monifieth, who was the guest speaker of the Rev Alan Watt, compiled a musical quiz of tunes from the last 60 years to mark all these years ago when the Rotary Club was first formed in Brechin.

Winner of the quiz was fellow Rotarian, David Vernon but many of the tunes had the members scratching their heads, especially those who were younger and weren’t even born!

Douglas is a fount of knowledge when it comes to music, even to composing his own, and he has the most wonderful and extensive record collection dating back to the time of the first Edison Bell wax cylinders through to the latest digital tracks on his computer which plays iTunes.

As Doug put it: “Recorded music has developed over the years for everyone to enjoy.

“A far cry from Caruso recorded on a single-sided HMV 78 rpm record which was acoustically recorded!”

Doug was given a vote of thanks, aptly by Ron Stewart, who also knows a thing or two about music himself.
