Brechin Rotary Club held its Burns Supper last week at the Caledonian Hotel, with President Steve Collis presiding over the tribute to the Bard.

They were pleased to have so many guests to enjoy the evening along with the members of Brechin Rotary Club. David Myles started the evening with the Selkirk Grace, and was in great form with the address to the Haggis, which had been piped in expertly by Gregor O’Neill. Jim Houston delivered the Immortal Memory, exploring new angles of the life and behaviour the Bard. This led to Jon Bergen’s rather irreverent Toast to the Lassies with Frances Urquhart more than equal to the task of replying. This year the club was extremely fortunate to have the musical treat of Gordon Penman and Maggie Finlay, accompanied by Isobel Luke. Gordon performed his usual exquisite fiddle playing, and Maggie charmed company as she delivered Burns songs as only she can.
