Students in Angus celebrating Freshers’ Week are being invited to enjoy the festivities in bars and clubs currently members of a unique scheme dedicated to customer enjoyment and safety.
As part of a drive to cut crime and create more “customer friendly” pubs and clubs, the Best Bar None Scheme focuses on safety and customer care to create safer and more welcoming city and town centre environments by rewarding safe and well-managed venues - including Brechin’s Hudson’s Bar.
Mandy Haeburn-Little, director of the Scottish Business Crime Centre which administers the scheme, said Freshers’ Week is the perfect opportunity for members of the scheme to raise the bar on providing students with a fun but safe experience.
Leading global brewers Molson, Coors and Heineken join spirits giant Diageo as sponsors which is set to see the scheme double in strength and drive forward consumer awareness with the aim that the public will actively seek out the safety conscious bars, restaurants and nightclubs who are members.
A Best Bar None board has been formed for Scotland, made up of representatives from the licensed trade, police and other emergency services. It will be supported by the executive committee of local coordinators who already manage the scheme at local level.
The initiative sets down a standard of operation agreed following consultation with the police, government and drinks industry. As well as the website, plaques are used to promote the venues.
