Tarfside WRI discusses World War II role of Dundee Submarine

President, Miss I. Findlay, welcomed members to the March meeting of Aldbar WRI held in Guthrie Hall.

Various items of business were discussed including the successful coffee morning held in February which raised over £270.

Grateful thanks are extended to all who supported this event in any way.

Dr Jaffray was then introduced and proceeded to give a very interesting talk on the important role played by the Dundee Submarine Flotilla during World War 2.

He revealed many surprising and little known stories relating to this time and finally talked about the memorial which commemorates the 296 servicemen who lost their lives while on active duty from HMS Ambrose, the Dundee Submarine Base.

Mrs. C. Allan proposed the vote of thanks. Tea hostesses were Mrs V. Gouck and Mrs J. Stewart.

Competition winners were as follows: Curried Rice Salad: 1, Miss I. Findlay; 2, Mrs M. Doig. Flower of the Month: 1, Mrs I. Archibald; 2, Miss P. Greenhill. Federation Jar of Marmalade: 1, Mrs M. Daun.
