MEMBERS of the Friockheim and District Garden Club visited the Duntreath Castle Garden Show on Sunday, June 17.
Duntreath Castle (actually two castles), home of Lord and Lady Edmonstone, is to the north of Glasgow, between Strathblane and Killearn.
The extensive grounds are beautifully maintained, with large lawns, an ornamental lake, flowers, shrubs and mature woodland.
The show, which was in aid of various charities, included floral displays, gardening and cookery talks, a display by dogs trained to help handicapped people, and trade stalls. An enjoyable day was marred by the curse of the West of Scotland, Culicoides impunctatus, which was present in large numbers due to the recent continuous wet weather. The party was glad to return to midge-free Friockheim.
The next meeting of the club, on Wednesday, July 4, will be a visit to allotments in Arbroath, hosted by club president, Joe Gibb.
