AT LAST week’s Rotary Club meeting at the Caledonian Hotel, local sheep farmer Peter Myles introduced the members into the world of wool.

His talk featured the fluctuating fortunes of the fleece industry, describing its many uses in processes that employ millions in harvesting, distribution and retailing.

Peter is heavily involved in the British Wool Marketing Board, which has headquarters in Bradford.

He gave a firsthand view of the Board’s work that includes wool grading, selling, marketing and promotion of the finished article.

Peter then highlighted the “Campaign for Wool”, which is being led by none other than Prince Charles, and has featured several high profile campaigns to encourage the use of wool.

The speaker was thanked by club member Ron Stewart for a fascinating look at the industry that supplies Ron’s pullovers.
