Angus Council has introduced the next generation of lending services into its libraries which are even easier to access.

From Friday, library customers have been able to use their library cards to borrow e-books and e-magazines without leaving their home.

The new digital magazine download service – Zinio – allows library borrowers to read, interact with and explore the selection of magazines on their own mobile devices just by using their library card.

Available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, library borrowers can download the latest editions of Hello!, Marie Claire, Good Housekeeping and Amateur Gardening amongst many other magazines to view on their smartphone, tablet or computer from home or anywhere in the world.

Councillor Jeanette Gaul, the council’s vice-convener of communities, said: “I’m delighted to announce the addition of e-books and e-magazine service to the existing e-audio book services.

“Rather than taking a book home and being trusted to return it on time, many people are opting to check out books electronically to read on tablet computers or phones for a limited time. There is no need to return them; the book disappears when the time is up.

“With the addition of the new e-books service, library members can download exciting new titles from a vast selection of authors.”

She added that the service will be especially good news for reading groups or even whole communities, who will all be able to download the same book at the same time.

“Because the simple download process is friendly for readers of all ages, every library borrower can enjoy the new format. All that is required is internet access and your library membership details.”

For more information about the range of Zinio titles and e-book and e-audiobook titles available through Angus libraries visit www.angus.gov.uk/anguslibraries.

Local libraries are free to join and new members are always welcome. Customers can also keep up with what is happening at their local library by following the service on Facebook at www.facebook.com/anguslibraries
