A year 45

Last year was an incredibly busy and productive year for the men from Condor who took part in operations all over the world.

From exercises to humanitarian and peace-keeping missions, the highly trained professionals of 45 Commando Group, based at RM Condor in Arbroath, proved they had what it took to be the unit at the tip of the spear.

Lieutenant Colonel AR Turner Royal Marines, Commanding Officer 45 Commando Group, said: “2015 proved to be a very busy year for 45 Commando as we assumed the role of Lead Commando Unit in May 2015, and we will continue in this role until May 2016.

“Being the Lead Commando Unit means that we are the UK’s response to any military or humanitarian crisis maintained at high-readiness to deploy anywhere in the world, and this was the case when members of both X-ray Company and Yankee Company, on board HMC Seeker and HMS Bulwark respectively, deployed to the Mediterranean to assist in the migrant rescue operations.

“The Unit also spent time away from RM Condor in the latter part of 2015 as we took part in Exercise Cougar, the annual deployment of the UK’s high readiness maritime joint expeditionary force, alongside our Royal Navy counterparts and our NATO allies.

“2016 will also be busy for the Unit but we hope to be able to meet as many members of our local community as is possible during the events that we take part in throughout the year.”

Thanks to the hard work of the Royal Navy’s photographers we have a pictorial record of 45’s exploits over the last year, some of which they have kindly allowed us to share here.
