Have your say

Over the weekend we will post a series of article about Volunteers’ Week and the fantastic work done across Angus by those who reach out to help others in need.

It is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK – and it took place this week (June 1 to 7).

We teamed up with Voluntary Action Angus (VAA) - which has centres in Arbroath and Forfar - to raise the profile of the benefits of those who volunteer, and the impact their dedication has on those they work with, no matter what their age.

Here in Angus there are hundreds of volunteering opportunities and hopefully something for everyone who wishes to volunteer.

VAA has a comprehensive database of opportunities and will help find the right opportunity for you.

It is your gateway to volunteering and can offer help and advice to allow people to make the right choice for themselves.

Getting involved is easy with the three steps to volunteering:

Contact the VAA – give them a call, email or visit them – they will tell you about volunteering opportunities and help you find something suitable for you.

You decide – volunteering is about choice and is something you can do to fit your life style, it is what you want to do. The VAA can help you find an opportunity to suit you.

Go and see – the VAA can arrange an informal meeting for you with someone from an organisation of your choice. If it’s right for you that’s great, if not, contact Voluntary Action Angus and they will help you find something else

A variety of organisations will be highlighting their volunteering opportunities in Voluntary Action Angus, Forfar centre throughout this week.

The VAA roadshow crew is also heading out and about throughout Angus and on Sunday (June 7) from 12 to 3 p.m. the team from the VAA will be at Arbroath West Links for a fun filled afternoon.

There will be family races, an obstacle course, prizes, face painting and much more, all for free.

You can find the VAA at 32-34 Guthrie Port, Arbroath, DD11 1RN or 1-3 St James Road, Forfar, DD8 2AQ

Phone them on 01241 875525 or 01307 466113.
