Arbroath’s woes continued in the SPFL League One on Saturday when they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Dunfermline Athletic at Gayfield, writes Sarah McLean.
Andrew Geggan put the home side into the lead just 12 minutes in with Ryan Thomson increasing the deficit to two just after the half hour mark.
Josh Falkingham sealed the deal in 65 minutes to take the spoils.
Arbroath are now lagging behind their Angus counterparts, Forfar Athletic and Brechin City, who have 19 points apiece and are sitting in sixth and seventh place respectively. Arbroath, meanwhile, have 14 points and are sitting ninth.
However, the Loons also suffered defeat, their second in 10 games, at the hands of Ayr United at Station Park.
With the scores level at 0-0 at half-time Kevin Kyle gave the Honest Men the lead in the 62nd minute and it was enough to see the three points as the game ended 1-0.
Brechin City recorded their second win in five days on Saturday with a 3-1 victory away to East Fife.
Andy Jackson put the visitors in the lead in the first half. Bobby Barr made it 2-0 in the 54th minute before Ryan Stewart pulled back a goal in the 70th minute for East Fife. But right at the death, in the 89th minute, Derek Carcary sealed the victory for the Glebe Park side to make it 3-1.
There are no Boxing Day games for the League One clubs so they will next be in action on Saturday.
Arbroath make the journey south to face Airdrieonians, Brechin City are at home to Stenhousemuir, while Forfar Athletic have a long journey to face Stranraer.
However, it’s a different story in League Two.
Montrose will be in action on Boxing Day against Annan Athletic at Links Park.
Then after just a day they will be playing again on the Saturday with an away day to East Stirlingshire.
On Thursday, January 2, there is another Angus derby to look forward to when Forfar Athletic travel to face Brechin City at Glebe Park.
East Fife will host Arbroath.
In League Two, Montrose will be at home once again when they welcome Berwick Rangers for the first game of 2014 to be held at Links Park.
