Leader for Angus Council, Bob Myles, also a local councillor, spoke of his delight at how Brechin switched on for Christmas.
“I felt the switch-on was a huge success,” said Bob.
“The feedback from some of the businesses was phenomenal, with some saying it was the best trading day that had ever had and long may it continue.
“I would like to congratulate all the businesses that took part. They have talked up Brechin when, in the past, it has been very easy to talk down Brechin.
“This just shows you what they can do when you talk up Brechin.”
Noting the restoration work that has been on-going in the city over the past year, Bob said that people were commenting on just how good some of the old buildings are looking.
“The event on Saturday just shows how the community can come together.
“Many people were shopping in Brechin for the first time and did not realise what assets were already on their door-step.
“Saturday was a total turn-around for Brechin.
“This Christmas event was the first but hopefully it will be the first of many.”
