Mac’s Floorcoverings in Brechin is set to change hands, after nearly 50 years in the same family.

Elizabeth Cummings, who currently runs the business with her husband Ian, set up the business with her brother Tommy in 1967.

Following their success, another branch opening in Forfar in 1979, and in 1997, they extended the Brechin store to the size it is today.

Due to Tommy’s ill health the Forfar shop was sold in 1999. After Tommy’s passing away in 2001 Elizabeth and her husband Ian decided to take over the business.

Now, they have decided to retire, with the company to be taken over by Emslie and Fiona Riddell.

Elizabeth said: “We will miss the many business associates and loyal customers whom we have become acquainted over the years. It has been a great pleasure supplying the various floorcoverings to our customers in some cases for three generations of families.

“We are pleased that the new owners Emslie and Fiona Riddell are to continue trading as Mac’s Floorcoverings with Kitty and Kymm still there giving their usual friendly help and professional advice.”

She added: “We are both looking forward to more leisure time, both of us enjoy travelling in the UK and abroad. Ian also hopes to work on his handicap on the golf course although he is not sure if it will go up or down!”
