The Attic drop-in centre in Brechin has great cause for celebration after receiving a cheque from the a local Brechin business.
The Attic, which is run by Brechin Youth Project, were given a cheque for a record £2,581 from the Brechin Castle Garden.
The business selects a local charity to fund-raise for, with previous groups who have benefitted including the City of Brechin Pipe Band and Friends of Stracathro.
The Attic, located in Clerk Street, provides a safe, substance-free meeting place for young people in the town and their volunteers and staff give up their own time to provide a fantastic service.
Brechin Castle Garden Centre’s managing director, Yvonne Ritchie, commented: “I would like to thank Centre staff and customers for their generous support.
“Our customers have donated generously in collecting cans as they shop and really got involved in our Cupcake Eating Contest and Fashion Show fund-raising events for The Attic.
“The support shown for The Attic has been overwhelming and we are delighted to present this record amount to such a valuable cause.”
Attic committee members Meg and Peem Milne indicated the money will be used for new seating and in the refurbishment of the premises.
They said: “It’s important we provide a high level of maintenance in our premises to encourage the young people to respect standards.”
Attic chairperson Lady Caroline Southesk continued: “We are incredibly grateful to Brechin Castle Garden Centre for their fund-raising for The Attic and their continued support within the local community.”
Also in attendance at the cheque presentation were Attic committee member Liz Kidd, vice-chair Ruth Leslie-Melville and Attic youth worker Kay Robertson.
The Attic has benefitted greatly from funding in recent months, with £2,000 awarded from the STV Appeal and £3,000 awarded from the Bank of Scotland Community fund.
This year, the 1st Brechin Scout Group are the Brechin Castle Garden Centre’s nominated charity. A spokesperson for the business said: “Staff are looking forward to planning new fund-raising events to show continued support to this local charity.”
