Brechin members consider independence referendum

Brechin branch members of the SNP discussed how members of the public are already considering the forthcoming Independence referendum at the latest monthly meeting.

Branch member Jim Houston reported: “A member of the public recently expressed concern that Scotland is too small to be viable as an independent nation.

“I pointed out that this is not the case, as almost half of the independent countries represented in the United Nations have a population smaller than Scotland’s and being a small country has big benefits in the modern world.

“Many of the wealthiest countries in the world are the same size or smaller than Scotland.”

The Brechin branch of the SNP are also sponsoring the pre-Christmas fair which will be held at Brechin City Hall on Saturday, November 12.

Councillor Mairi Evans stated: “I am very impressed with all the hard work of branch members in bringing the Angus Crafts Association to Brechin City Hall for the first time in many years.

“The fair promises to be a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of local crafts from all over Angus offering a range of Christmas and other gift items for all the family”.

The fair on Saturday, November 12, will have extended hours and will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and, in addition to the Angus Crafts Association stalls there will be the usual stalls, raffles and prizes and refreshments throughout the day.
